Botulinum A Toxin (Botox) injection has been FDA approved for use in the cosmetic treatment for glabellar frown lines only – the wrinkles between the eyebrows. While Botulinum Type B is not FDA approved for cosmetic treatment it works the same as Botulinum Type B. Botulinum Type B is approved by the FDA for spasmodic torticollis and other medical treatments.

Injection into the small muscles between the brows causes those specific muscles to halt their function (be paralyzed), thereby improving the appearance of the wrinkles. The goal is to decrease the wrinkles in the treated area. This paralysis is temporary, and re-injection is necessary within three to four months.

How Long Do Results Last?

With BOTOX, the effects on the targeted muscles can last up to 3 months, at which time another treatment is required. After several treatments, however, results can last even longer.

Is it Safe?

BOTOX has been used successfully for over 20 years in ophthalmology, and for over 10 years in plastic surgery and dermatology. Side effects are generally rare.

Facial Expressions?

Only your ability to frown is diminished. Muscles responsible for all other facial expressions are not affected.

Other Options?

Currently, BOTOX is the best treatment specifically for wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyes. However, we also use injectable fillers and chemical peels to improve facial wrinkles in all areas.
